Education and Training
Marathon provides programs and learning opportunities to develop skilled, competitive workforces in the communities in which we operate. Specific projects are determined on a case-by-case basis. Examples of community education projects include:
- Marathon's on-going education of our National Workforce in Equatorial Guinea, through a program developed by the Accounting Department of Marathon EG Production.
- Support of the Engineering Explorers program, which provides high school students education and training opportunities centered on engineering and technology careers.
- Participation in the Highway Watch Program, a security program that is building a network of "security guards" throughout the United States.
- Marathon committment to the development of local talent through internship programs and scholarship programs: For example, the Alba Plant Undergraduate Scholarship (Equatorial Guinea) and the Tchatamba Undergraduate Scholarship (Gabon) allow top students from these two nations to pursue academic careers at a world renowned United States university.
- Corporate support of host-country education programs and facilities: The Company works with colleges in local communities where we operate. Marathon technical staff worked with a Texas college to develop an educational training curriculum.
