Marathon Oil Corporation’s refining, marketing and transportation operations (downstream activities) are operated by Marathon Petroleum Company LLC (MPC). The Company ranks as the fifth-largest petroleum refiner in the United States and the largest in the Midwest.

Operating in the Midwest, Upper Great Plains, Gulf Coast and Southeast regions of the United States, Marathon's downstream operations are strategically located to serve major markets and include a seven-plant refining network with 974,000 barrels per calendar day (bpcd) of crude oil throughput capacity, a comprehensive terminal, transportation and marine, and pipeline system, and extensive marketing operations.
